It really doesn't bug me. I don't think that when we use names that we are insulting the origonal name or group of people. People have insulted my faith time and time again as I have traveled back  east. Truthfully it doesn't bother me I just laugh it off because who cares if they disagree with me? I really don't care.

Art of Ta Moko

If I hurt feelings as I write this I am sorry. This has never been my idea of what I would like done to my face. I guess I would be insulted if someone "lied" about my culture, or told it different then how I would express it. But that doesn't help me with the issues of tattoos and moko. One is injecting ink into you the other is carving it into your face. The culture that resolves around the Moko think of their scars (don't know if that is the right word,) They believe that it shows how high up their family is and who is their ancestors are. It tells everyone about the individual with the burnt skin. (I don't mean that offensively either) I think the song writer Maniapoto got her point cross very clearly. I think she is talking to people like me, the skeptics, the people who don't necessarily believe in the type of culture that is established. But it is everyones right to practice the type of culture they want.

Truthfully I have no idea if it is opinion or fact. Most people though go on opinion rather than fact. What they have learned from examples around them. I think that Maniapoto used her opinions on what her culture meant to her in order to write down her song. I think her approach was effective for her purpose to a degree. People of her own culture will listen to her song and rejoice! For everyone else I can't say, did it do anything for me? No but then I am a skeptic.

She  truly shows that she loves her culture and that is what she believes in. Or she's a very good liar.  She wants her own culture to stay with her people. She doesn't like it when people mess up on her culture, the difference between tattoos and moko. the difference is very real to her and the culture that it symbolizes.  She likes her own culture and she doesn't want that to be ingrained on anyone else. Though odds are she likes other facts about globalization.
I don't believe someone can be completely against globalization, because everywhere you go there is going to be things from different countries.

I don't mind risks, I really don't. Maybe that's why I felt my knees bend when I was thousands of feet above the ground on top of Angels Landing southern Utah. It just looked so fun to just jump... obviously I didn't because I wouldn't be around to write this. At Jensen's dam there are several cliffs. There is an anchor of wood and people can repel off the side of the cliff. It's not that high of a cliff but high enough for the sharp rocks at the bottom to kill someone. Other people would never jump off a cliff even if they were attached to several ropes. People like me would love too, the exhilaration and joy they find bouncing off cliffs is just to fun to resist. I don't really realize how people don't like heights, to me its if you fall off, the height will kill you so quick you don't even realize when you hit the ground. I don't mind the risks I think it would just be dandy. If I could pick the way I would die it would either be death in my sleep or death by heights. Some people just hate the feeling of falling. I don't understand it but apparently those afraid of heights do. If you ask bethtwilight apparently she agrees that heights are horrible things. I love them.

A) in the dictionary it states that legacy is the amount of money that is inherited when someone passes on. In my opinion legacy is what the person left behind but not money. Maybe someones legacy was what they did, maybe it was their lives work, something they are rememberd by.
The Richmond center is one of the largest centers they made for the 2010 olympics and one of the permanent structures that has been designed. The building itself is 47,526 square metres, designed for several sports. the question we are asked is this is this a premier legacy.
I would have to say, yes its the legacy you are giving your children and children's children, Your leaving behind somthing they will like, enjoy and somthing that you are rememberd by. Their Richmond building will be a cornerstone for the legacy of the 2010 olympics. They will be rememberd by keeping their building and to continue to enjoy the recreation provided from this.

Being A Canadian 'eh

When I hear what people think of Canadians I immediately think of all of the things we are supposed to be: eh', dogsleds, Tim Hortons and pillars of ice. In actuality I think being a canadian would be someone who has a great privilege. Great choice and great responsibility.  Here in Canada we aren't America who is the world power no matter how many people want to deny it. We are one of the top countries that people want to move into. Is that what a Canadian is though?

Canadians all over Canada have the same privileges, to a certain extent. we all live in a free country where our health care is abundant, and helps people get better with out the stress and strain of finding the money for a 1000 dollar operation. We all have rights that go along with a democratic society. We can vote, were not segregated and everyone has the freedom of speech. We have opportunities that allow us to travel instead of staying in the same country for all of our lives.

Being Canadian is not just about rights though it is also about responsibility. We as Canadians have the responsibility to obey, sustain, and honor the law.  I suppose we can disobey like when you break the rule in high school and have detention or school suspension. but it is your responsibility to obey. people don't always complete there responsibility but it doesn't go away even if you ignore it. Canadians have responsibilities and rights.

Canada is a place of great choice. That is something that is just Canada. We have the choice to vote even though it is a right and a responsibility. Personally I think when you don't vote you loose your opportunity to complain. If you didn't help form the government why do you get to complain? People have the choice with how late they are out and about where in some countries with dictatorships that is impossible. Every day we are faced with choices even simple ones like what should I have for breakfast like pancakes or eggs.  What we choose doesn't define us as Canadians, but the opportunity of choice does.

Those different things are in my opinion what a Canadian is, not the Coffee not the dogsleds or ice. The opportunities that we have however is. The rights we have. The responsibilities that we have even if you consider it unfortunate that we have them. and the opportunities of choice in our country is another joy that we in this country have. This is what being a Canadian is to me. To have the choices and responsibilities.
